Shantaram Nandgaonkar
Shantaram Nandgaonkar was born on October 19, 1936. He was a native of Kankavali, Nandgaon, in Konkon. He studied at Shirodkar High School in Paral, Mumbai. He came to Mumbai when he was a child. He was a well-known poet, lyricist, and actor. He won the hearts of the audience with his devotional songs and poems. He wrote several songs in Marathi. He was popularly known for his work as a writer in the movies Aai Pahije (1988), Gammat Jammat (1987), Aaj Jhale Mukt Mi (1986), and Amhi Dhoge Raja Rani (1986). He also worked as an actor in Bin Kamacha Narva (1984). He contributed to over 16 Marathi albums. Shantaram Nandgaonkar wrote his first poem in class 10th.

Noted poet Shantaram Nandgaonkar passes away
Noted Marathi poet Shantaram Nandgaonkar died here today following a prolonged illness. He was 73 and is survived by his wife and two sons.
Nandgaonkar's funeral took place in the evening today. He was suffering from Alzheimer's disease for the past year and was being treated at Bombay Hospital, where he died.
Nandgaonkar hailed from Nandgaon in Sindhudurg district. He wrote the lyrics of several Marathi and Hindi films songs.
His songs "Daatoona kanth yeto pahile na mi tula..." and "Pratham tula vandito, Krupala..." from the film Ashtavinayak were very popular. Some of his other better known films include Dhoom Dhadaka, Navri Mile Navryala, and Ashi Hi Banva Banvi.
He composed the lyrics for the Hindi film Doodh Ka Karz. His song on Dr BR Ambedkar, "Dalitancha raja, Bhimrao mazha" was also popular.
